Yesterday F1 announced they were going to stop using grid girls, in his statement Sean Bratches, Managing Director Commercial Operations at Formula One, said  “While the practice of employing grid girls has been a staple of Formula 1 Grands Prix for decades, we feel this custom does not resonate with our brand values and clearly is at odds with modern day societal norms. We don’t believe the practice is appropriate or relevant to Formula 1 and its fans, old and new, across the world.” I was really excited, it was my mum that had spotted the news on Twitter and we discussed at length that this wasRead More →

I’m sat here writing this with two young sons by my side. I can only hope to god that they don’t turn out to be anything like the men described by The Financial Times in their recent article about The Presidents Club. Please familiarise yourselves with it. It’s pretty tough reading. To summarise a men only club holds a yearly charity fundraiser where they hire “hostesses” to parade around basically looking pretty and being leered at – and the rest. Money talks. I’m not shocked, unfortunately. This goes on. A lot, I’ve seen it. I grew up, and still live, in Sevenoaks. A fairly wealthy partRead More →

So ladies, the Jade Goody effect has worn off and less eligible ladies are having their smear. This is frankly ridiculous. I won’t lecture you. You know what could happen. You could ultimately die from something that could be prevented. If your smear is due, book an appointment, go and see the nice nurse, whip your knickers off, lie back and think of England. But before you do let me regale you with a tale of one of my smears: Let me set the scene, this was pre-children, pre-losing my dignity – these days I’d whip my knickers off and let the Tesco delivery manRead More →

The BBC have reported here that a secondary school in Kent are searching bags each morning and confiscating unhealthy snacks. The school states “We had noticed a deterioration in concentrations, learning and behaviour particularly from students bringing into school large multi-packs of unhealthy food, snacks and drinks.” I guess that in itself is fair enough but they also state that they are “not returned” – are they consumed in the staff room? Who can say? If they were to give the items back at the end of the day I would feel better about it. I have mixed feelings about this, having two young sonsRead More →

I’ve ummed and ahhed about writing this post. I have no real experience seeing as I’m heterosexual and certainly don’t want to be condescending. But, I do have an opinion and that’s what this is all about so here goes… I’m not really one to keep abreast of current affairs (something I intend to remedy) but whilst attempting to get a non sleeping toddler to sleep recently I was browsing Twitter. One Tweet in particular caught my eye. Allow me to enlighten you – On Monday (New Year’s Day) we (me, my mum and Big L – 6 and a half) went to our localRead More →

Love ’em or hate ’em we have to use ’em.  Supermarket car parks.  Which genius designed them I do not know!  Every time I use them I drive past swathes of empty disabled parking spaces (don’t get me wrong I don’t begrudge these I just don’t understand why they are always half empty).  I drive to the parent and child parking and if I’m lucky I find a space.  I get out of my car and look for a trolley.  Nope the trolley collector has been far too effing efficient.  I get the bags out of the boot because, you know, the environment isn’t gonnaRead More →

I’m quite a politcal beast and one thing I’m really passionate about is voting (if you’re eligible) so here are my top tips for voting: Vote! Just effing vote.  If you only read the first tip that’s fine! Vote!  Did you hear me? Vote!  Got that? Good. Oh, and VOTE!!! Register to vote. In order to vote you need to register to vote, you can do that here.  I’ve even put the link in for you.  Aren’t I nice? You have until 23.59 22nd May 2017 to do it. Get it done – now, or after you’ve read this.  Whatever. Postal Voting. If, like me, you are aRead More →

A friend of mine shared this on Facebook yesterday The general consensus was that this was outrageous.  Some of her friends said they’d only had one child and given up their job as they were better off financially not working than paying out for childcare. Others said that there should be more money for childcare, I pointed out that in some Scandinavian countries mothers are paid to stay at home with their children. Not that I’m biased at all you understand. Then one of her friends said, and I quote “no one forces people to have kids.  It’s their choice” I don’t normally rise toRead More →

On our local mum’s network is a thread about who gets the weekend lie in.  You must bear in mind that this is a network primarily favoured by mothers but also those that care for children such as grandmothers, childminders etc etc.  I thought the norm would be to take weekend lie ins in turns.  That’s certainly what Vince and I (try to) do.  One of us has Saturday and the other Sunday although I’m invariably woken up by Big L who comes in to check he can get out of bed….every day. Sometimes I can get back to sleep, others not so much.  TheRead More →
