We have a tradition in our house of only going to one Santa’s Grotto and that is at Coolings, a local garden centre. We’ve been to the same one each year since Big L was 6 months old so this year will be his seventh visit. We’re booked to go again on Sunday in fact. However, last weekend Vince’s parents came over for a pre-Christmas visit and our one Grotto rule was broken. We made the mistake of introducing them to Bluewater a couple of years ago and they love it. I don’t think I’ve ever met people that can shop quite like they canRead More →

Let me set the scene. You’ve made the most amazing home cooked, three course meal, all locally sourced organic food. You paired it perfectly with wine, hell you even made the dessert and didn’t buy it from Marks & Spencer. The company is fantastic, you are the hostess with the mostess. You tell witty anecdotes of the time you were a croupier on a cruise ship and the celebrities you worked with. Then dinner ends, what to do? Out comes The Game of Things. This is not your usual run of the mill after dinner game, it’s no charades, oh no – it’s much more thanRead More →

Christmas is just round the corner and stocking filler ideas are firmly on the agenda.  Kids are easy to buy for if you have money to burn but most of us don’t so the fab people over at Addo have sent me three things to review that won’t break the bank. Plus I think they would make fab stocking fillers: First up is Nikelodeon Liquid Lava Putty Big L loooves this, it comes in different formulas such as glow in the dark and colour changing. He has two colour changing ones, blue to purple and orange to yellow. This stuff is fab and mysterious! ItRead More →

We were recently asked to review Shnooks – admittedly they are aimed at girls (please don’t call the gender police) and I have two boys but we have lots of different toys and frankly I thought they looked cute. They arrive almost flat packed in a “bubble” and the gimmick is that they grow to 8 times the size once out of the pack and shaken (in this case very vigorously).  Big L was quite impressed – he gets shiny object syndrome and thought it was really sweet. He quickly ripped the pack and tore the top of the “bubble” open to remove a veryRead More →

Last week I felt very lucky to be invited to the launch of Nicola Rowley’s new children’s book – James and the Birthday Balloon.  I was particularly excited because (not only was it a rare chance to get out of the house) but both Nicola and Cbeebies own, very lovely, Dr Ranj were there! Dr Ranj narrates the audio version that is downloadable with each copy. The event was held in the Evelina London Children’s Hospital and £1 from the sale of each book is being donated to the hospital. The book is about James who has the ability to cheer people up with hisRead More →

Last week I was invited by the lovely people at Three to attend a blogging event in Islington, essentially to get “hands-on” with the new iPhone.  I’ve never owned an iPhone, I am strictly an Android girl but I wanted to see what the fuss was about and some of my “Blogging Besties” were going too.  We don’t get to go out together often so when the opportunity arises we tend to grab it with both hands and run like the wind. The session, headed by Stephen Green of Dr Logic, was fairly small which was good as it gave us the chance to askRead More →

We recently bought a larger barbecue to replace the small two-man jobby that has seen us through the last seven years. It has fared us well, we bought it from Homebase for the princely sum of about £15. I think they still sell them now and I wouldn’t hesitate recommending one. We’ve just outgrown ours (plus we left it out over winter). Anyway I ordered a new one from Tesco Direct, we’d got £42 in Clubcard vouchers and I found a decent barbecue here that was half price at £75. The service from Tesco Direct and their delivery company Arrow was great.  We were kept informedRead More →

A couple of weeks ago I was lucky enough to be invited to Hotter Shoes blogger event in Bromley. I’d heard good things about Hotter, plus I love shoes but I have difficult feet to keep happy, especially following two pregnancies. I was doubly excited when the email mentioned food, drink and a free pair of shoes.  Three of my favourite things. I messaged Fran of Whinge Whinge Wine  to see if she was going as she’s local too, she was so we arranged to meet at Bromley South station.  It didn’t quite go to plan, you can read Fran’s tale of woe here. It involves a late bus,Read More →

I know most of my posts are either rants or my attempt at humour (if you haven’t read them please familiarise yourself with them here) but with the school holidays fast approaching I thought I’d share my favourite outdoorsy places local to me.  Obviously that will mean eff all to anyone not from around these parts.  Sorry about that! I love getting outdoors and I don’t like paying for it so they are all either free or cheap! Here goes: My first favourite place is Sevenoaks Wildlife Reserve on Bradbourne Vale Road.  I’ve had a love affair with this place since I was a little girl andRead More →

For as long as I can remember I’ve been on a diet, or at least in need of one.  When I was seven my mum took me to the Dr because I had a cold or some other unrelated illness and the Dr (who himself was, let’s be honest here, a fat fucker) told her I was overweight and sent me to a dietician.  There started my unhealthy relationship with food.  It really started when my parents split up and I would spend the weekend with my father who plied me with sweets and crisps and sat me in the corner of his local pub.Read More →
