If you are anything like us you are currently hurriedly putting together your children’s back to school essentials
Now, I am of a view that if it still works or fits it can be used again, in fact Little L (4) starts reception this year and I had the foresight to keep the usable bits of uniform left from his nine-year-old big brother (which did not include the polo tops, those were beyond redemption).
For school uniform we usually buy them from TU at Sainsbury’s during their 25% off sale, however that didn’t happen this Summer so I had to pay full price – shock horror! Anything that fits will continue to be worn and anything that doesn’t fit will be passed down or on.
The biggest thing for kids after their uniform and shoes is the accessories – backpacks, pencil cases and so on. I’m not cool but I understand Smiggle is right up there for such things
Smiggle let us choose our own so here is what we went for (I ordered all our items online from Smiggle.co.uk with free delivery over £40):
Smiggle Far Away Backpack
This is great for older kids as it has a compartment for a 15 inch laptop and a lined media device compartment with headphone access. Currently on sale half price at £17.50
There are also matching items in the range such as:
Smiggle Far Away Notebook
A lined notebook that matches the backpack. This is currently in the 3 for £5 offer
Smiggle Stainless Steel water bottle that keeps your drink cool
We love our stainless steel water bottles. They keep your drink cool for hours and don’t leave that strange plastic taste. This one has a spout for less spillage, as the children won’t be able to use the water fountains at school having fresh water daily is really important. This is currently £16.50 online
Smiggle Budz Wallet
Big L is now of an age where he wants to take money out with him and this wallet is perfect. There is a space to write his details in case he loses it (perish the thought) and sections for cards and a zip pocket for money.
This is currently on the website at £10.00
Big L already has a Smiggle pencil case to keep everything in. It’s essential that they take in everything they need as they aren’t allowed to share pens and pencils for obvious reasons – this is also part of the 3 for £5 offer.
For younger ones Frugi have a gorgeous Back to School 2020 collection
I have always admired Frugi for their ethos and Frugi’s accessories are made using recycled plastic PET (waste plastic bottles) and is a sustainable way to teach kids about helping our planet.
Little L loves this dragon set and is very excited to use it when he starts reception in September.
The pencil case has a RRP of £8.00, lunch bag £15.00 and the steel water bottle is £10.00.
Available from your favourite Frugi retailer and directly from www.welovefrugi.com
Little L is particularly fond of colouring and I love this set from:
Stib Inspirational Colouring Pencils
Stib really have thought of everything with these pencils. The pencils themselves each have an inspirational quote on them such as Great Leader, World Changer and Good Listener. They are soft lead which leaves really bright colour, they are big enough for little hands to grip but not too big and, to top it off, they are triangular so they don’t roll off the table. Prefect!
They come in a handy cardboard tube with a set of cute stickers and a pencil sharpener.
Available directly from Stib.com this pack retails at £9.95
Maths & Spelling Games from Orchard Games
Children learn far more when it’s made fun, what better way than making a game of maths and English? These two games from Orchard Toys are aimed at ages 5 to 7 have an RRP of £12.95, available directly from Orchard Toys and Amazon
I have a set of the two games to giveaway, scroll down to enter.
More educational games, this time for slightly older children, from John Adams
During lockdown Big L was busily making comics and books and this would have been great for that – he is planning on using it to collate his comics by binding them and creating a front page. Great for encouraging writing and creativity.
Bookeez is available from all good toy shops and Amazon HERE
Ultimate Gross Science
A lot of us might have struggled to keep up with science lessons during lockdown. A great way to get kids interested is by making it gross! This cool set from John Adams is sure to get kids involved using slime and bouncing poo…
Ultimate Gross Science is available from all good toy shops and from Amazon HERE
Back to School First Aid Essentials
I may be preaching to the converted here but it can’t hurt to be reminded…
Plasters! We recently reviewed these cute plasters from Safe + Sound
Both our boys have made use of them on our recent mini break to the seaside. Split toe nails and small scratches were no match for a pink dinosaur plaster.
Available from supermarkets and your local chemist
Excilor 2in1 Wart and Verruca Treatment
We were sent this for inclusion in this guide and, after another product didn’t work, we have used this and it seems to have done the job! There are two sections to the pen. One end houses the freezing treatment and the other end is the gel. After freezing you then wait a day and pop a little gel on once (or twice for grown ups) a day for up to five days and hey presto!
Excilor is available from chemists, supermarkets and Amazon
