So, you’ve decided to move house. Here are my 5 top tips to ensure your move runs smoothly and with as little stress as possible
#1 Arrange a removal company
First thing is first, you need a moving date! While you are waiting for that I would suggest that you research Affordable Removal Services. A house move is expensive enough without adding unnecessary removal fees into the mix. Once you have narrowed it down into your price range check reviews. Word of mouth is a very good gauge of a service. Local Facebook groups are often the place to find this infomation – people are only too happy to share their good (and bad) experiences with companies.
#2 Arrange child and pet care for moving day
Trust me on this one, you don’t want your little ones, whether the be furry or otherwise, getting under your feet on moving day. Ask a friend or family member to have them for the day while you move. That way you won’t have to worry about someone, or something, escaping through an open door while you are distracted and you can focus on the move itself
#3 Label your boxes
If you ignore all my other advice make sure you label your moving boxes with the room they should go in. There is nothing worse that getting to your new home and finding a mountain of identical boxes. Marking them with each room will help organise when you arrive and make life so much less stressful. I even go so far as to write the contents on the outside of the box, that way you can put everything away so much more quickly.
#4 Share the load
I admit I am a bit of a control freak, and if you are the same then you find it hard to delegate or ask for help when it is offered. Make sure you draw up a list of things that need to be done and get your famliy to help – even the kids! Your children can pack their own toys, your partner can help by changing the addresses on bills and so on. Friends will offer to help – let them! There is no shame in accepting help, a house move is a hige task and many hands make light work! You can repay them with a meal at your lvoely new house when you are all moved in.
#5 Food and drink
This might sound daft but make sure you have plenty of food and drink to hand. If you are a tea drinker make sure you don’t pack the kettle until the last minute! Moving house is thirsty work so have plenty of water and snacks. Moving house day is not a day to worry about your waistline, and anyway you’ll be burning off calories with all that lifting and carrying. Give yoursef the night off cooking too – order yourself a takeaway. The last thing anyone wants to do after a day of moving is to slave over a hot stove!
