My Dream House

This is a collaborative post

I try not to get ideas above my station. We have a nice little house in a nice neighbourhood but I often dream about the sort of house I would have if I ever won the lottery

We all do that, right? I mean, obviously I would love a Malibu beach house, or a bolt hole in the South of France but if I were to be a little more realistic then I would be happy with a slightly larger house in the area I live in now.

So, let’s imagine I have won just enough to buy a reasonably sized house, ideally 4 bedrooms plus a granny annex for my mum.

First of all I would like a driveway. At the moment we have to fight for a space to park outside, or indeed within walking distance, of our house and frankly, it grinds my gears (if you pardon the pun).

I would like a porch, or an internal garage. Basically somewhere to keep muddy boots and coats!

The living room, dining room and kitchen

I would like an open plan family space and I would have engineered wood flooring throughout. It is practical, easy to keep clean and looks stylish too. A stylish floor needs to be complimented by classic ogee skirting to really make the most of it.

I would have fitted units throughout, that actually match! Somewhere to hide ALL the clutter. A corner sofa to snuggle with the family to watch television or read or play games. In the dining area I would have a large wooden dining table that comfortably sits the whole family and guests.

In the kitchen I would have integrated appliances that actually work, matching kitchen cabinets and… AN ISLAND! I can’t make my mind up between quartz worktops, wooden or granite worktops – what would you choose?

A utility room had long been a dream of mine. Somewhere to keep the washing machine etc so the house doesn’t look cluttered.

I would have a downstairs toilet – the stuff of dreams. And…

I mean you couldn’t have a 4 bedroom house with only 1, surely?

I would have bathrooms that were easy to clean and absolutely do not have carpet! I like a wetroom, walk in shower or shower over bath, I can’t be doing with shower cubicles, too small! I also need to think about the future when the possibility of requiring a disabled bathroom becomes more of a reality. A bit of storage solution in the bathroom for cleaning products would be nice, no one needs to see your bleach or loo brush!

The dream bedrooms

I would like 4 decent sized bedrooms, not three and a box room. Decent fitted wardrobes in each room and furniture that matches. We already have a super king bed but it takes up our whole room so ideally a room big enough to accommodate the bed with its Organic Mattress AND furniture wold be nice.

The granny annex

I would like a self contained annex for my mum. At 76 she is perfectly able to take care of herself but it would be nice to have her close by, just not actually share living quarters! We love each other but still need our own space so a self contained annex with everything she needs, bathrrom, bedrom and kitchen, would be ideal.

That is my dream house – what would you like in yours?
