According to statistics, during the lockdown, UK homeowners spent an average of £4,035.70 on renovations. But despite the figure, giving your home a facelift does not have to be expensive, and there are simple ways to do this and still save a lot of money. All it takes is some proper research and paying a visit to a nearby hardware store.
Paint always works some magic, bringing a new look and freshness to the home. Professionally painting your whole house may be expensive, so you may have to do it yourself. Consider going for neutral colors as they give you a lot of flexibility with furniture colors. You might want to read up on colour selection and know when to use gloss or matte. A simple way to go about this is to select a neutral color for the walls and then go with white for the doors and others. Make special consideration if you have young children at home by getting paints that allow for easy cleaning when marked.
Consider changing some floors
Having the same floor throughout the house can feel a bit drab. Fortunately, you can liven things up by changing some floors in the house. Places to consider are the living room, bedroom, and kitchen. There are several options to consider, such as solid wood flooring, 3D Epoxy, tiles, or even stone. In some instances, you may want to go with a simple carpet.
Improve light fittings
Get some nice and fancy light fittings like pendant fittings for the living areas and spend less on nice and simple light fittings for the rest of the rooms. Also, consider replacing the switch covers on the walls. It is a cheap and effective way to make your home look modern. Pay attention to the windows as well, as they will let in natural light during the day. Replacing your old window covering can bring a fresh look to your home. Switch it up by going for contemporary options such as plantation shutters or roman blinds.
Replace old handles
Getting new handles for your doors, drawers, and cupboards is a cheap but effective way of giving your home a facelift. Consider going for handles that have a similar shape and length to the ones you are replacing. This is to ensure that you cover the holes the old ones will leave behind without having to fill them.
Update the bathroom
The first thing to consider here is to resurface your tiles, as bathrooms are always better in lighter colors. If your tiles are already in good condition, you may just want to repaint them using a primer. If you need to replace the tiles, get simple ceramic tiles that don’t cost much. Remember to go for ones that have natural stone or marble looks. It is also recommended that you change your old shower frame and replace it with frameless glass as it is easier to clean.
