Stay on the Outskirts

As you might expect, it can be expensive to stay in the centre of the city, so you might want to think about booking a hotel on the outskirts which is also a great way to see the surrounding beauty. You can then catch trains going to Edinburgh each morning when you want to explore the city.

Relax in the Parks

Edinburgh features many beautiful parks and green spaces which are perfect for relaxing on a warm summer’s day and also a great way to save money. There are also many great walks that allow you to explore and take in fabulous views of the city, including a walk to Calton Hill and the iconic Arthur’s Seat, which will give you outstanding views of Edinburgh and beyond. The Royal Botanic Garden is also highly worth visiting and considered to be one of the best botanic gardens in the entire world with 72 acres to explore just one mile from the city centre.

Art Galleries & Museums

Edinburgh is famous for its culture and there are many excellent art galleries and museums to explore that are free of charge or very cheap. A few of the best places to check out include:

  • The National Gallery
  • The Queensferry Museum
  • The Writer’s Museum
  • National Museum of Scotland

Scottish Parliament

Scottish Parliament is another major attraction to see in Edinburgh and they offer four different one-hour tours of the inside, all of which are free so this should certainly be on your list and a great way to learn about parliamentary history, architecture, photography and art.

Affordable Food & Drink

Edinburgh is also famous for its food and drink with something for everyone. There are many swanky restaurants and bars, but you can also find much more affordable options especially at the local markets serving fresh food at a reasonable price, plus this can also be a great way to soak up the atmosphere and have some fun.

Edinburgh is a fabulous city and a great place for a vacation. The above are a few ways that you can explore and get to know the city without spending a fortune and will allow you to enjoy all the major attractions. It is the type of city that is best explored simply by strolling the streets, so it is ideal for those looking to save money and it is sure to be a trip that you never forget.
