Toys were sent for purpose of this review – all opinions are our own
New for 2020 Caterpillar have released a Dump Truck and Fleet Sand Toys – prefect for playing in sand pits and for digging in mud!
Little L, now four, got a sand pit for his third birthday and is often found digging and making sandcastles in it. He has had a few dump trucks but they were always plastic and don’t quite withstand the rough treatment they get.
Along came Caterpillar and asked if we would like to review their steel Dump Truck & Fleet Sand Toys
Of course we jumped at the chance. Huge fans of sand, huge fans of trucks, we couldn’t say no.
Caterpillar Dump Truck
With a RRP of £30 this beast is 17 inches long, of steel construction and has a lifetime guarantee – yes, a lifetime guarantee! They are clearly sure this thing will stand the test of time, and play!
Little L has great fun filling up the bucket with sand and tipping it out again. It’s quite heavy and has undergone a few weeks worth of thrashing. Even big brother, Big L (almost nine at time of publication) has got in on the action!
It is clearly good quality – I think this is one of those toys that will be passed down, remember the lifetime guarantee…
Caterpillar Construction Fleet Sand Set Wheel Loader – complete with hard hat
This has a RRP of £15. The wheel loader is great fun to push in the sand, lift the loader and move the sand around and dump it down. It is plastic so lighter and likely not as hard wearing as the steel version but it is still going strong. I was playing with it myself and found that the loader doesn’t stay up when full of sand but the kids didn’t seem to notice.
It comes with a rake and scoop which is great to keep more than one child occupied at a time, and a hard hat. Now, it must be said that the hard hat is pretty big on Little L, it’s about right on Big L but too small for Monsieur Incidental (aged thirty six at time of publication).
What did we think of the Caterpillar Sand Toys?
I think you can see that all the boys (and I) loved them. They have had many hours of fun over the last few weeks playing with them and not too much squabbling as there is more than one toy, only one hat though…
The toys don’t have to be only used outside, they would be great fun indoors, moving construction bricks from one side of the room to another. I noticed that while the Ls played they were making vehicle noises and using their imagination no end.
I like them! Where can I buy them?
The Caterpillar toys, and there are more in the range – there is a Construction Fleet Dump Truck Sand Toy Set as well but Argos were out of stock at time of purchase – are all available from Argos and Amazon via these affiliate links (I can earn a commission from these links but it will cost you no more to buy):
