Now could be the perfect time to book a ski holiday.
A holiday can mean so many different things to different people. For some, a holiday is the chance of adventure and exploration, a means to explore new cultures, try new foods and see life in a different part of the world; others may think of a holiday as purely relaxation, the ideal means to step away from the stresses of life and switch off, acting as respite from the world and a window to leave home life, work and worry behind. Of course, it is not necessary to even go abroad to be able to enjoy either of these holidays. Every country can boast stunning beauty spots, incredible dining cuisine and the chance to try something new and extraordinary, however the weather can be a huge factor in deciding to go abroad – especially across Europe. When coming to the process of planning a holiday, with the desire to make each one special, it can be a problem trying to satisfy everybody’s preferences. There is, however, a type of holiday that combines adventure, something different from everyday life, picturesque scenery and the chance for relaxation: a ski holiday. Ski holidays are ideal for amateur and experienced skiers alike, with resorts able to cater to every ability, and Europe hosts some of the best venues across the world. Skiing is an incredibly popular pastime which a lot of holidaymakers revolve their trips around. Interestingly skiing originated as a functional means of transportation, obviously perfectly suited to climates where snow is either common or near-constant, but has since evolved into both a leisure activity and professional sport. Skiing is one of the principal events of the Winter Olympics along with the similar pastime snowboarding. Skiing has a global appeal, as enthusiasts will gravitate towards the nearest suitable location. In the United States of America, for example, it has been estimated that over 51 million skiers/snowboarders visited ski resorts in the 2019/2020 season alone. As for the popularity of the sport in Europe, the demand is only growing. As of 2018, estimated findings were published that demonstrated the interest in skiing depending on the country: Germany, with the highest number of skiers, had 14.6 million, France had 8.5 million and the United Kingdom had 6.3 million. Esquiades recognise this demand and have collated some of the finest resorts and/or slopes in Europe into one place (namely Andorra, France, Spain, Italy, Switzerland and Portugal), offering competitive deals which mean you get the best experience for your money.
Understandably, skiing holidays, and the travel industry more generally, has suffered greatly in light of the Coronavirus pandemic. With national lockdowns commonplace across the globe, venturing internationally has been both difficult and ill-advised. As progress is being made with vaccination programmes, however, life is gradually moving towards returning to normal and thus holidays may return in 2021 and beyond. Given that skiing is an outdoor activity, usually practiced individually or within a very small group and at some distance away from fellow skiers, it appears that a skiing holiday may have a greater sense of normality by comparison to a standard recreational trip.Follow me on social media for more!
