We were given free passes for the Christmas Trail at Bedgebury previously. All opinions are our own
Updated for 2025!! Last Christmas (2024) was our fifth experience of The Christmas Light Trail at Bedgebury in Kent so thought I would give you the benefit of a few hints and tips. Here is our Christmas at Bedgebury review
What can I say? For a start we would go back without hesitation. It is a Christmas Wonderland without a doubt. I apologise now, my photographs do not do it justice.

The Christmas Light Trail at Bedgebury Pinetum is about 45 minutes from Sevenoaks, depending on traffic.
We arrived and found it to be well organised from the minute you enter the car park.
There is plenty of space in the car park and it is lit well enough to see your way. Make sure you take note of where you parked though! There are stewards to direct you towards the entrance, and stop cars to allow you to cross safely. Have your tickets ready to speed things up.
The Cafe at Christmas at Bedgebury Pinetum
The cafe is festively decorated as always and open for hot and cold food but there is limited seating inside. The food is reasonably priced for a captive audience and have a decent range, including vegan, on the menu are hot food like chicken goujons, sausages, chips, sausage rolls, pasties as well as sandwiches and rolls etc. Drinks wise there are lots of options including hot cider and mulled wine for the festive season.
There was loud Christmas music playing which really gets you in the festive mood before you even start the trail.
We then all used the loo before setting off. I would definitely recommend using the loo in the cafe, the are some poortaloos a little way round but there was a queue.
What to expect from Christmas at Bedgebury Pinetum, Kent?
I had read a bit about the trail, the lights and so on but it doesn’t really prepare you. I have to be honest I got quite emotional at times. I know you’re going to think I have lost the plot, but sharing such a special experience with your family really is precious. Oh, and I am a sucker for Christmas too so….
The Christmas Light Trail at Bedgebury Pinetum is more than “just lights”
The different music in each area really sets the mood. We loved the fact that the trail seemed to transport you smoothly from one area to another without there being a direct shift in ambiance.
Each of the areas had their own charm. From the uplit trees. The decorations. The fire pits where you could toast marshmallows. Father Christmas greeting the children as if he knew them. This year there is an emphasis on environmental issues as well as next year being Bedgebury’s 100th Birthday!
The Christmas Lights at Bedgebury Pinetum 2025 – what you need to know:
I am pleased to report that for 2024 Bedgebury have changed the route and also there is more seating around the trail.
There were also no tactile lights at all, no lights that hang down that you walk through at all but, I have to be honest, the other displays more than made up for that.
There are more stalls selling food and drink dotted around the trail. I can recommend the mulled wine! And there are now picnic benches in the main food van area which was very welcome to balance drinks on while scoffing a waffle (not a euphemism).

Christmas at Bedgebury are also offering relaxed sessions for those with additional needs
This session is for adults and young people, with additional needs, who would love to experience Christmas at Bedgebury without the usual high volumes of people. For Christmas at Bedgebury 2025, this will be held at 4pm on Saturday 22 November, Wednesday 3 December and Tuesday 16 December.
Do you have to pay for parking at The Christmas Lights at Bedgebury Pinetum 2025?
Yes! Car parking is an additional £8.00 this is paid at the time of booking tickets.
Is food and drink and available at The Christmas Light Trail at Bedgebury Pinetum?
Yes! There is a large cafe selling hot and cold food and drink. Including some festive favourites, mulled wine and cider.
The food is reasonably priced under the circumstances (but by no means cheap) with hot food like chicken goujons, sausage and chips as well as sausage rolls and pasties (including vegan which I can confirm was delicious).
There are also some stalls around the trail selling hot and cold food and several selling drinks.
There are fire pits to toast marshmallows. Marshmallows are for sale but are expensive (but they are bloody lovely to be fair and last a while, they aren’t your bog standard marshmallow) but you can take your own like we do – don’t forget your sticks!
I also took some hot chocolate in flasks – I felt very smug sipping that on the way round!
Are there toilets on the Christmas Light Trail at Bedgebury Pinetum?
YES! Although I would suggest using the loos in the cafe before you set off there are portable loos about halfway round, including a disabled loo with ramp and baby changing facilities.
How long does the Christmas Light Trail at Bedgebury Pinetum take?
It’s just over a mile but it takes as long as you like. We take around an hour and a half, it was a lovely amble until we approached the end when both kids declared they were desperate for the loo! A friend of mine went to Bedgebury last night too and spent three hours mooching!
Is the Christmas Light Trail at Bedgebury Pinetum accessible? Can you use a wheelchair or pushchair?
The trail is mostly on path and accessible. The toilets have a ramp to enable a wheelchair user to access them. Although there are some steep and muddy places but I wouldn’t let that put anyone less able bodied off at all. There are also buggies available should you need one for anyone who might struggle to get all the way round.
Is there a fun fair at The Christmas Trail at Bedgebury Pinetum?
No. There are no rides this year.
Is Father Christmas at The Christmas Lights at Bedgebury?
Yes he is, BUT it is not a grotto experience. Father Christmas is in a chalet in the woods and he greets and chats to the children, there are no presents involved.
Can I take my dog to Bedgebury Christmas Light Trail?
Yes! Dogs are welcome but they must be kept on a short lead.
