I think it’s nice if you can find toys to encourage siblings to play together, whatever the age gap. Plus it means they leave me alone and I get a few minute’s peace!
Our two have five years between them and there are a few types of toys they enjoy playing with together so I thought I would share them with you. We are very lucky that our two share quite a few common interests. Not least because Little L looks up to his big brother, Big L, and wants to emulate him. Here are a few of the toys, all available from Very this Christmas, we have found they enjoy together.

First up is the Nintendo Switch
Big L got a Nintendo Switch a couple of years ago for Christmas, then I was given a Switch Lite for a blogging job (I know, living the dream) which Little L pinched. The two play a lot of games together such as Mario Kart – which is a great game for all the family actually – as well as Minecraft where you can all play in one world. We all enjoy playing Minecraft together, yes, even me!
The boys dad, Monsieur Incidental, is also an avid gamer. He’s particularly keen on retro games so the kids have followed in his footsteps. He had the original version of Star Wars Racer which he played with the boys so I thought they would all enjoy the Switch version. They are also fans of Sonic the Hedgehog and this one has the option to play together.

Nerf Minecraft Stormlander
Sticking with a gaming theme, Nerf have recently brought out a Minecraft Dungeons range. Nerf is also a huge hit in our house, we have loads of Nerf guns. Being a dippy hippy I didn’t want the boys to play with guns but admitted defeat when Big L was a toddler and munched a slice of toast into a gun shape, pointed it and went “pew pew”. There is no hope.
Anyway, as you can see the Nerf Minecraft Stromlander comes with 3 Stormlander colourway Nerf bullets. It works in the same way as the Nerf guns in that you load up the bullets, pull the silver handle at the bottom of the hammer and prepare to launch!
It actually packs quite a punch so make sure you don’t point it at anything too vulnerable and keep an eye on the bullets as they go a long way!

Jurassic World Dominion Laser Tag Blasters
It seems my kids enjoy playing together when they can pretend they are shooting each other, what can I say? The whole family enjoy the Jurassic Park films and we took Big L to the cinema with some friends to watch the latest Jurassic World Dominion movie for his eleventh birthday (Little L is a bit too, well, little for that one at the moment I think).
The Jurassic World Laser Tag Blasters are great fun! They make blaster noises from the moment you start them up and, as you can see from the photo, they light up. The lights go out as you are “hit” and the winner is the last one with lights left on. They are great fun, even mums and dads enjoy them, at least this mum and dad did! The great thing about these is they can be enjoyed indoors as well as out.

Jurassic World Dominion Strike ‘n Roar Giganotosaurus
Following the first Jurassic World film a good few years back Big L was given a T-Rex not too dissimilar to this Strike ‘n Roar Giganotosaurus, several years on (and I mean well over five years) it is still being played with!
The latest Strike & Roar Giganotosaurus is somewhat new and improved – for one there is no hole in it’s mouth that little people can pop lego in, Little L I am looking at you! You hold it by it’s tail and it swings menacingly then, with the push of a button underneath, it opens the dinosaurs mouth and makes it roar.
The boys have great fun playing with this as well as the old T-Rex.

Heros of Goo Jit Zu – Jurassic World Giganotosaurus
I have come to realise that there is a theme of guns and dinosaurs running through this post, what can I say, they like what they like! Little L is a huge Goo Jit Zu fan. We have a fair few, including Marvel Venom and Groot which he’s has a couple of years and still plays with.
This Jurassic World Dominion Ginganotosaurus Goo Jit Zu is great fun! For anyone who is not familiar with Goo Jit Zu toys they are squidgy and stretchy and a lot have different fillings, like beads as well as goo. They are available as packs of two or more and singly. There are mini and giant versions as well as one with a truck! If you have more than one then kids can happily play with them together.
The Giganotosaurus has a plastic head that you can lift back to open it’s mouth.

Lego Sonic the Hedgehog
Lego, Lego, Lego. It’s a bit like Marmite, you either love it or hate it. We LOVE Lego! Lego basically takes up a lot of room in our house and is given to each member of the family for birthdays and Christmas. In fact I have treated myself to the Elf House for the family to make together this Christmas.
This Sonic the Hedgehog Lego set has been on the boy’s wish list since it came out. It is an 18+ one due to the fiddly bits, and the fact that it isn’t really a “play” set, but it is one the family can build together and enjoy. We enjoy making Lego sets together as a family and the boys spend a lot of time building their own creations and then, well, fighting with them.

Toys that siblings and families can enjoy together
The best part about all the toys in this guide, apart from the fact that they are excellent fun and keep kids entertained for hours (in some case over the course of years!) is that they come with batteries included! My top tip is to always have spare batteries at home, AA & AAA batteries are the most common in toys I’ve found.
