Preparing a Lockdown Love-In this Valentine’s Day

This post contains gifted items

This Valentine’s Day, spent under lockdown, is going to pretty different

Some of us will be lucky enough to spend the day with our Valentine but others aren’t so lucky and may not have seen theirs for some time. Instead of doing a run down of gifts, this year I wanted to write a post about creating something special for Valentine’s Day at home, whether you are spending it alone or with someone special.

Everything is available online.

Setting the scene for a lockdown love-in for Valentine’s Day

Why not start the day with breakfast in bed? We enjoy almond croissants (frozen, I’m not that good in the kitchen) and freshly ground coffee, why not surprise them (or yourself) with a new mug for Valentine’s like this one by Our Name is Mud:

It’s larger than your average mug, but not the size of a bucket. Available from giftgivingallwrappedup.co.uk £9.95

Afternoon tea…

If you are lucky enough to be spending the day together, indulging in a spot of afternoon tea is always a winner. This one from Bradford Bakers contains all you expect from an afternoon tea and a little bit more there is plenty for two people but could be enjoyed alone over a couple of sittings (maybe).

The Elegance Tea Tray is £32.90 with your choice of scones

Take a romantic walk

Since we are in a national lockdown getting outside is precious. Taking a walk with the one you love is very special but even if you can’t be together you could chat on your walk. Don’t let the rain stop you with this super cute Peter Rabbit umbrella.

The Peter Rabbit umbrella is £16.00 and available from Beatrix Potter Gifts by Enesco

Creating a romantic ambience

Lighting a scented candle is always a good way to set a romantic mood. I love this Midnight Jasmine candle from Bigwicks.co.uk. It has a lovely floral scent, it reminds me of holidays to Cyprus, walking to a local restaurant in the evening.

The Midnight Jasmine candle from Yankee Candles is currently on offer £22.49 from www.bigwicks.co.uk

There is very little more romantic than having a bath run for you or taking the time to run one for yourself. Pop some bath salts in and relax! I’m loving these bergamot bath salts from House of Eden

Bergamot Bath Salts £14.99 from House of Eden

Decorate your windows with reusable stickers from Snow Windows. They have a range to choose from including the below Love heart, a teddy and colourful hearts.

Window stickers available from £9.99 from www.snowwindows.com

For a cozy evening in I love a hamper. I like delving in to see what treats there are, like this one from buyagift.com. It contains all the savoury bits you need to have a nice meal for two, incuding smoke salmon, olives, cheese and crackers.

The Deli Delights Hamper is £64.50 from wwwbuyagift.com

To keep any leftover wine (it does happen, occasionally) fresh you will need a bottle stop. This stainless steel bottle stopper by Farfalli is very elegant and would make a lovely gift for any wine connoisseur.

Farfalli bottle stopper is £29.95 and available from www.whitbyandco.co.uk

If you are cooking, or buying a gift for someone who enjoys cooking then you need some professional knives. They really do make all the difference – trust me! I used cheap knives for years before discovering professional ones like these Opinel knives from Whitby & Co.

Opinel Intempora Trio Knives £119.95 from www.whitbyandco.co.uk

Valentine’s Day Card

I have to be honest, I’m a bit biased here because Alex from Rosarts designed the artwork for my website, in fact if you are stuck for gift ideas she has some pretty epic artwork on her site. She also designs cards like this one, available on Thortful:

Valentine’s Day card £3.29 from Thortful

Gifts for Valentine’s Day during lockdown:

With a heart that can be personalised as well as a choice of birth stone Swarovski gem this necklace makes a really personal gift.

Engravers Guild sterling silver heart pendant in pink box with peridot birthstone

Sterling Silver Heart Necklace with Swarovski birthstone £39.95 from Engravers Guild – to be in with a chance of winning your own necklace check out this Instagram post

Perfume is a really romantic gift. I bet a lot of us haven’t been bothering with perfume as we’ve not been leaving the house but we should. I’ve started wearing it more again and it really lifts my mood. Tom Ford is famous for their beautiful, lingering scent and White Patchouli is no exception.

Tom Ford White Patchouli £80.99 from www.perfumedirect.com

Silk underwear is incredibly luxurious so treat your loved one, or yourself, to a pair of silk underpants. Available in black and white they are stretchy and let your skin breath.

Pure knitted boxer shorts £20 form Jasmine Silk

Gin has become very popular in recent years, even more so this last year (I cannot think why). There are all sorts of different flavours and combinations. The Secret Garden collection from The Old Curiosity Distillery has a really romantic vibe and is so pretty.

The Secret Garden Two Gin gift box is £29.95 from www.theoldcuriosity.co.uk

For a little light reading this book is just the ticket!

Off: The Day the Internet Died is billed as

a tongue-in-cheek biblical style little book that imagines an alternate reality and is sure to hit home in our tech-addled, generally befuddled worlds. We all dream about it, but what would an analogue world actually look like? Un-barraged by gloomy news and inane celeb gossip, we begin to notice nature again when taking walks. Snapchatting gives way to endless rounds of Go Fish. Minecraft is a game involving sticks and leaves. We talk to our neighbours and occasionally we fall in love…

Off: The Day the Internet Died RRP £9.99 is available from all good bookshops. For stockists visit www.prestel.com

I’m very fond of the Willow Tree, I’ve bought figurines for both my mum and Monsieur Incidental’s grandmother. I really like this one that represents Patience. I think we have all been very patient this last year and it would make a great gift for Valentine’s Day.

Willow Tree Patience £29.95 from www.willowtreegift.co.uk

For a sweet gift that is easy on the pocket this cute little gift from Kloche is perfect…

Greetings from Tiny Town. A town where characters are no bigger than a matchstick and a place where celebrating the good times, become an everyday event. This glass dome decoration encases a very hopeless romantic , adorned with a giant red love heart and a cute little love note

Kloche – Love You figurine £12.95 from www.giftgivingallwrappedup.co.uk

Finally, for something to look forward to in the not too distant future…

How about a Memorable Moments Gift Box from Red Letter Days. You can choose from LOADS of experiences across the country and it’s great value at £79.99 for two people. The voucher is valid for 2 years so it will be something to plan together when we are able to get out and about again.

The Memorable Moments Gift Box is £79.99 available directly from www.redletterdays.co.uk

That’s it!

I hope this gives you some inspiration to treat yourself and/or your loved one this Valentine’s Day. You really, really deserve it.
