I am a plus sized lady who likes pretty clothes (despite appearances I can scrub up alright for the right occasion) so when I was asked if I would like to pick some plus size occasion wear from Very I jumped at the chance!
These days it is a lot easier to find plus size clothes, a few years ago retailers thought anyone over a size 14 liked to hide behind beige or black (vertical stripes because “it’s slimming” optional) loose fitting clothes. Trying to find a dress for weddings or parties was a nightmare and often ended in tears.
Things are a bit different now, you can buy plus sized clothes on the High Street as well as online. I was really impressed with the selection of plus sized clothing including plus sized dresses on offer at Very, not only their own brands but also High Street retailers like New Look and Yours.
Now, I have to apologise, I am no model and my garden is not Insta friendly at the moment, but that’s not what this, or I, am about – a normal person living in a bog standard house!
Here are three of the plus size dresses from Very I chose, and why I chose them!
All three dresses are by Yours and are size 22/24. I find Yours is a bit more generous than some other brands size wise and fit my ample bosom, which is the bane of my life where dresses are concerned.
I also paired all three dresses with a pair of gold sandals by Schuh also from Very. I need to wear them in a bit as I have wide feet but I can see them being a staple over the summer. You can find them here

I chose this dress because I just love blue. Having a bigger bust I don’t like high neck lines as I don’t find them very flattering on me and this has a nice v neck.
The button detail down the front of the dress adds a bit of interest and it fits nicely across my bust, coming in slightly at the waist so it doesn’t look like a sack! Angel sleeves are my favourite, I think they are really feminine and flattering and if you are self conscious about your upper arms, or bingo wings as I like to call them “FULL HOUSE”, they cover them nicely.

Curve Pink Midaxi Dress by Yours
I have an admission to make, I had this in my basket before I received the email from Very asking if I would be interested in this campaign so as soon as I saw it on the Very website I knew it was mine! I love the colour and, like the blue dress above, it has angel sleeves. It’s slightly higher up the bust but still a low enough to be flattering and a nice v shape. Being a midaxi length it is slightly shorter than a maxi dress, just above the ankle on me and I’m 5ft 7ish on a good day.
- Bow detail on the back of the dress
- Cheers!
- Little L approves!
The real selling point for this dress is the bow detail on the back, which shows off my 20 something year old tattoo, look, it was all the rage back then!

Curve Gypsy Bardot Maxi Dress by Yours
I saved the best for last, in my opinion. I absolutely love this dress, I love the way I feel in this dress! You know that feeling when you put something on and it fits, and looks nice and makes you feel confident. That’s what this dress does. The sleeves are slightly shorter than the first two dresses, rather than a v neck this has a flattering scoop neck with a tie at the front.
It is a fill length maxi dress and the skirt is tiered. I just love everything about this dress! The way it fits, the material, the colour – EVERYTHING!

I think all three dresses are really versatile, the sort of dress that wouldn’t look out of place on the school run on a summer day or barbecue in a friends garden, right up to a wedding guest outfit or posh dinner out.
Which dress is your favourite?
