Robots seem to be more popular than ever so we were really excited to be asked to review Botley the coding robot
Botley the coding robot comes in a square box which opens to reveal the super cute Botley.
What’s in the box with Botley?
When you open the box you will find:
- Botley the coding robot
- Remote programmer
- Detatchable robot arms
- 40 coding cards
- 6 double-sided tiles
- 27 obstacle building pieces
- Starter guide with coding challenges
What you will need to play with Botley
- Philips screwdriver
- 5 x AAA batteries
What age is Botley aimed at?
Botley is aimed at children over the age of 5. That said our two-year old tried to get involved (as always).
I can imagine it might become a bit babyish from about 9, but Big Ls friend who is 8 loved it.
The aim of Botley the coding robot
Botley was designed by Learning Resources UK with STEM in mind. The idea is to introduce children to the basics of coding in a fun and interactive way. To start simple but grow as your child’s understanding of coding grows too.
Botley has various features for endless challenges. The first thing Big L wanted to do was the Easter Eggs and hidden features. With these you can make him talk or go dizzy. These are great fun and there are more to find online.
Botley comes with coding challenge cards, cards with black lines to follow and obstacles to go around. He also comes with a goal to push things into.
Here is Botley following the black line.
What did we think of Botley
I was really taken with Botley the minute we got, erm, him.
Big L has played with him a lot and he was a hit with his older friend too.
I think it is the sort of toy that grows with your child so they won’t lose interest. They can start with simple instructions and then make it more complicated as they begin to understand more.
Where can you buy Botley the coding robot?
