Discovering new wines with Independent Wine – Peter Zemmer Riesling 2019

This is a collaborative post with Independent Wines – all opinions are my own

One of the things I enjoyed about lockdown was that wine o’clock started early and no one batted an eyelid

The fact that we couldn’t go out also meant that I was more adventurous with my wine choice too (basically I couldn’t just pop to the local supermarket and choose what was on offer). I have been ordering wine online and when Independent Wine contacted me to ask if I would like to try their wines how could I say no? It’s a tough job sometimes.

The first wine that Independent Wine sent me is Peter Zemmer Riesling 2019 from Alto Adige £17.26

This is described as

A highly aromatic Riesling from the Alpine vineyards of Alto Adige. This wine has expressive aromas of melon, elderflower, honeysuckle, yellow apple, and bread dough. It is dry on the palate, with pronounced flavours of fruits balanced by high acidity – a combination that offers a very refreshing taste. The wine has a medium level of alcohol and a medium body. It is youthful and will age beautifully in the cellar for at least 5 years, where it will continue to develop its complex aromas.

We had been out for the afternoon on Sunday and had my mum round for Sunday dinner afterwards. I had the foresight to have this wine chilling in the fridge and opened it while cooking. I do enjoy a glass of wine while I am cooking dinner, it makes ut feel like less of a chore. Monsieur Incidental, my mum and I thoroughly enjoyed this wine with our meal.

I prefer a medium to dry white wine and this ticked that box. It was fragrant but not overpowering and went well with our aubergine, pasta dish.

Independent Wines are specialists in Italian Wines

I am a big fan of Italian wines to say the least so it didn’t come as a surprise that this was particularly nice.

Independent wines have a Knowledge Base page on their site to help you choose your wine and give you hints and tips, including on price, which is great because I am a bit clueless so need all the help I can get!

Another reason to order from Independent Wines is that all wines are hand picked by them so you can be sure they are high quality, and even better they have next day delivery so you know you won’t have to wait too long.
