I received the Hoover HF9 for the purposes of this review

So, I received the Hoover HF9 Hands Free vacuum cleaner back in March and am only just writing my review. One reason being I have struggled work-wise this year but I am putting a “I’ve used it for 4 months so you can trust my opinion” spin on it. I think that works!

Now, originally I was supposed to be reviewing the pet edition which is a bit more expensive. The pet version has an extra “mini turbo pets brush” which is supposed to lift out pet hair more efficiently and would be handy for stairs – I’ll get into that later. Unfortunately they sent out the wrong one but nevermind, I might buy the pet head thingy separately.

Important things to know about the Hoover HF9 vacuum cleaner – the pros and cons
It’s suitable for both hard floors and carpets you don’t even need to change heads. Push the button on the main unit (see photos below) and you can flip between hard floors and carpet in no time at all, this is great for me as we have both types of floor right next to each other!
It weighs 2.5kg – it’s pretty lightweight apart from when you are waving it around tackling pesky cobwebs on the ceiling. It can feel a bit heavy after a while of doing that but the plus side is, as it’s cordless, you can move around freely.
One charge lasts UP TO 45 minutes I generally use it on TURBO mode which cuts cleaning time to about 11 minutes. Plus side is it means I whip around quickly but it does mean I can generally only do the downstairs OR upstairs not both. You can buy an extra battery, I found some here on Amazon RRP £69.99, which is worth the investment if you’re like me and hyperfocus on cleaning from time to time (hellooooo ADHD)

The Battery is removable (unlike some other hands free vacuum cleaners) which makes charging really easy. I don’t have a plug in the cupboard under the stairs so I have mine plugged in in the kitchen, it’s a fairly small charger so it doesn’t get in the way at all.
It’s really easy to empty – you can either leave the dirt collector unit/dust tank (whatever you call it) attached and empty it by pushing the button on the bottom over a bin or you can remove the unit completely by pressing the top button. By doing this you can also access the filter which can be removed and washed along with the rest of the dirt collector. Giving it a clean helps to keep it in top working order. As it is anti twist I have not had any issues with hair getting tangled in the brush either!
Easy to empty at the touch of a button
The Hoover HF9 is pretty quiet – Seriously, compared to every other cordless vacuum cleaner I have used (a fair few) it’s much quieter so you can have a whip round in the evening without worrying about annoying your neighbours or waking your kids.
It’s really easy to switch between tools – you don’t even need to touch the brush head to remove it, you simply use your foot and push down on the bar. Switching between tools and even removing the long reach pole is super easy too, just push the button and pull. I have had other vacuum cleaners that I almost needed another person to help me!
It stands up on it’s own – this is great if you see a bit of rogue Lego that needs picking up. Although you’re not supposed to leave it standing on its own indefinitely – it comes with wall mount – I don’t use it mine is stood up in the cupboard (sshhh, don’t tell anyone!).
It’s got a light – I have found the light is really helpful especially on hard floors, you can see any dust or hair that you might otherwise miss.

What I think of the Hoover HF9
Having used the Hoover HF9 for *cough* four months I can honestly say I love it, as much as you can love a vacuum cleaner anyway. It’s a shame it doesn’t have a smaller head for stairs as the floor head is just too big and cumbersome for the small area and the crevice and dusting tools are too small to tackle the job.
I love that all you need to do is put the battery in and it’s ready to go. It’s light so easy to take upstairs, unlike my massive Dyson. It has made it much easier for me to keep on top of housework as it is on hand, no plugging in necessary – apart from the battery of course. The battery life is a bit short for my liking but it’s either that or a heavier battery I guess. All in all I think it’s ace!
