We were invited to try the vegan mains, dessert and drinks in return for this review
When we were asked to review Bill’s vegan menu I was really excited
Not only because I don’t get out much and, well, free food, but also because I am never very adventurous when it comes to trying vegan food.
I have been a vegetarian for almost 30 years but usually steer clear of vegan options in restaurants, I have tried one or two and found them to be bland and I haven’t liked vegan pizzas because of the cheese, maybe I should try again.
We went to our local Bill’s restaurant in Sevenoaks and received a warm welcome. This wasn’t only because we were doing a review, some of the waiting staff didn’t know, but they were all very nice, knowledgeable and passionate about the food they were serving.

Bill’s Veganuary menu is extensive and contains something for everyone
Monsieur Incidental and I each opted for different dishes so we could try each others.
Bill’s Veganuary Starters
Miso Aubergine Fritters
I ordered these, they were awesome. I didn’t want to share! The slightly hot chilli, soy dip really brought out the flavour.
Candy-Striped Beetroot, Kale and Red Onion Hummus on Toasted Sourdough
I tasted a couple of mouthfuls of this. Truly delicious.
Bill’s Veganuary Mains:
Mushroom and Tarragon Suet Pudding
I could eat this over and over. It is a perfect winter warmer. A great substitute for a “real” suet pudding, the pastry was nice and crisp, not stodgy. This would make a great Sunday lunch too
Bill’s Beetroot Steak
Having tried vegan “steak” before I have to admit I was apprehensive but this was lovely. It didn’t have the “fake steak” texture that I don’t like. This was my first taste of vegan mayo too, it won’t be my last.
Bill’s Veganuary Desserts
Frozen Amaretto Parfait
How can this be vegan? It’s so light and if you like amaretto (like me) you’ll love this
Sticky Chocolate Pudding
This was delicious. Much lighter than your typical sponge puddings and the coconut ice cream topped it off nicely.
Low and No Alcohol Cocktails
Æcorn Spritz and Tiny Tom Collins
If you overdid it at Christmas, you’re driving or you don’t partake Bill’s has some low and no alcohol cocktails to choose from. Monsieur Incidental chose the Æcorn Spritz, which was a tad bitter for my taste but then I don’t like Aperol so what do I know? I had the Tiny Tom Collins and I could drink it all day long! It was lovely, refreshing and fruity.
All in all I would highly recommend trying the vegan dishes at Bill’s
Things have changed over recent years and vegan food is getting better and better. In fact I would say that restaurants are getting more adventurous for vegans. I would choose the dishes I had tonight over vegetarian dishes that I would normally choose. Monsieur Incidental (who is normally a meat eater) loved his, and mine!
Bill’s currently has an offer after 5pm of a vegan dessert for £5 with any main from the Veganuary menu. For the menu check out Bill’s website www.bills-website.co.uk
