Twixmas – that part between Christmas and New Year when no one knows what day of the week it is and whether a mince pie for breakfast is still the law…
Twixmas is the time when you start to get fed up of binge eating food, binge watching the television and need to get a bit of fresh air. Here are a few ideas in and around Sevenoaks and a little further out for those who fancy a drive

Sevenoaks Wildlife Reserve, Sevenoaks
We love it here. We visited here yesterday and it is very full of water after the recent rainfall. It is free to park and enter, there are toilets and a cafe along with a museum (don’t mention the taxidermy,although my kids love it) and a shop selling local bits and bobs (check the opening times for the shop and cafe as it is volunteer run).
It can be muddy so don’t wear your best trainers.
The Tiger Who Came to Tea at Knole Park

If you aren’t National Trust members Knole Park itself is free to walk around, you only pay if you go into the house or park in the car park. You can park your car in one of the car parks in Sevenoaks and walk in, The car park next to Sevenoaks Leisure Centre is closest and you can walk down Webbs Alley – beware it is very steep. Knole is hugely popular and there can be huge queues to get into Knole Park car park at this time of year – it is often full and closed (they will put on note on their Facebook age so worth checking that).

The Spa Valley Railway Santa Special
Spa Valley Railway
Spa Valley Railway is a firm favourite in our family. In fact I asked my 8 year old which his favourite Christmas experience was this year and the Spa Valley Railway Santa special topped the list (and we did a fair bit!).
It is a volunteer operated railway served by both steam and diesel trains. You can get on at one of a number of stations – check out our review of Spa Valley Railway (from Easter 2019) for full details.
Howletts Wild Animal Park Nr Canterbury, Kent
I know it is a bit of a way but it is worth it. Winter is a great time to visit, there are less crowds and less leaves on the trees so some of the animals are easier to spot.

Godstone Farm, Godstone, Surrey
Another one that is a bit further out but kids love Godstone Farm and with good reason. We visited earlier this year and here is our review of Godstone Farm with links on booking etc.
A trip to the coast
We usually go to Hastings but we are very lucky that there are loads of beaches and coastal walk around an our or so away. Wrap up warm and enjoy fish and chips. Just don’t expect the amusements to be open!
