The spending money was gifted by Hotels.com, but all views are my own
London Bridge was always a station we either passed through on our way to Charing Cross or used to go somewhere else by tube.
Everyone knows London is worth the visit so when we were challenged to spend some quality time in the area we jumped at the chance. Trains from Sevenoaks to London Bridge are frequent with “fast” trains being half hourly. They only take 20 odd minutes to reach London Bridge, however for a night out there are plenty of hotels in London Bridge to choose from. While there you might want to check out the flea markets in London.
We had already had breakfast but next time we will go to London early and treat ourselves to a lovely brunch or breakfast too.
Our first port of call was Borough Market, Nr London Bridge Station
I have to confess we have never been to Borough Market before – the shame! We loved it! The atmosphere was great. It’s a very buzzy food and drink market selling wares from all over the globe. There is plenty to choose from a nd a great selection of street food.

Monsieur Incidental was pleased with the numerous French Delis on offer I was impressed by the huge stall selling fudge!

From here we walked towards the River Thames and along to the the left.
Not far from London Bridge Station we passed the Golden Hinde. We stumbled across the ruins of Winchester Palace, which looks very out of place surrounded by modern buildings.

We continued on past The Clink – the most notorious medieval prison…Under a Gourmet Burger Kitchen – random! We debated going inside but instead carried on to find a bar for a well deserved drink.

Looking for a bar we walked past The Globe Theatre. Yes. Shakespeare’s Globe Theatre is a stones throw from London Bridge Station too!

We found a bar, The Anchor, Bankside, next door and stopped for a drink. While we were there we decided to look for a restaurant that accepted our 2 for 1 discount card. This took us on a little bit of a further walk but we found a gem of a bar/restaurant/hotel combo St Christophers Inn.

We shared a whole bottle of wine and had a lovely, leisurely lunch. I tried the vegan burger and onion rings and it was delicious! As we were leaving the waiter told us to go back later in the evening as apparently they are well known for their live music – something for next time for sure!
After our (late) lunch it was time to head home to the kids. We had a lovely time in London Bridge and will certainly be back to explore a bit more and to visit Borough Market.
