I have to admit I am biased. I have spent several wonderful villa holidays in Cyrpus, both before and after having children. We also have family there. For us a villa in Cyprus is the ultimate family-friendly holiday destination and here is why:
We always go as an extended family, including Granny and sometimes Uncles and Aunts too! We like to hire a villa on the outskirts of a town or village, within walking distance of a bar / restaurant. Splitting the cost of a villa can be surprisingly reasonable too, we usually book via a website like Clickstay
1) You don’t have to share your villa in Cyprus with anyone else
I am not a people person. That’s not entirely true but when I am on holiday I want it to be exactly that. I want to be able to relax, I want my kids to be able to play without worrying that they are annoying fellow holidaymakers. Villas in Cyprus are the perfect option. Children can be loud and run around without bothering anyone, well, apart from you and your family!
Villas come in all shapes and sizes. There are smaller ones for a couple or bigger ones to cater for a large group of family and friends.
We love visiting little villages – they have exceptional tavernas!
2) In a villa in Cyprus you can self cater (or not)
One of the joys of renting a villa is that you aren’t reliant on hotel food. You can go to the local supermarket (they are packed with fresh, local produce) and buy all you need for a few days. Villas often have a barbecue too – what more could you ask?
If you don’t fancy cooking then you can head to the local restaurants. They’re usually excellent quality and you get a lot for your money. Restaurants are on the whole family friendly and Cypriots are great with kids.
4) At most villas in Cyprus you get a private pool
The most important thing for us is that there is a pool! Remember the part up there ^^ where I said I like my kids to be able to play without bothering other holidaymakers? Actually that goes for the adults too! We like to laze about on our inflatables but we also enjoy acting the giddy goat and splashing each other. Who doesn’t, right?
We love having our own pool. You don’t have to compete for space, or put up with others splashing around if you aren’t in the mood. You can get up early and go for a swim alone, or take a dip at sunset. Perfect!
You might find that you have the beach to yourself!
5) The varied landscape of Cyprus
Cyprus is small enough to be close to the beach and the mountains at the same time, wherever your villa is based! We love the varied landscape of Cyprus. If you get bored of the pool you can go to the beach – there are both pebble beaches and sandy beaches. There are even beaches where you can see turtles lay their eggs if you go at the right time!
For a different perspective a trip into Troodos mountains is a must – it can be nippy so take a jacket!
6) The weather in Cyprus
Cyprus is blessed with amazing weather! You can be (almost) assured of lovely weather from April to October! Top tip – if you like swimming in the sea my family suggest visiting later in the season as the sea has warmed up! Beware July and August can be very hot though so small children might not enjoy it so much. The joy of a villa is they are usually light and airy and come with air conditioning – which is important if you like to sleep when it’s hot!
Cyprus is also about 4 to 5 hours flight from UK so not a long haul flight – just make sure you have plenty to keep the children occupied and you’ll be fine!
Where are your favourite holiday destinations?

Great article – I totally agree with this bit “I want my kids to be able to play without worrying that they are annoying fellow holidaymakers” – much more stress-inducing than even the thought of how other people’s little darlings might behave!!
