Body posititvity and periods

Body positivity seems to be the new buzz phrase lately. Some saying it’s promoting obesity others that it means we should feel comfortable in our own skin. At the grand old age of forty I am the most comfortable in my skin I’ve ever been and I likely look the worst!

You see, for me confidence or body positivity has come with age, and settling into the body I live in. Or maybe it’s not confidence as much as acceptance, either way I’m OK with it. I don’t have the prettiest body by far. I am fat, wobbly and covered in scars from operations but, you know what, who cares? I’m not nearly as fit as I would like, I don’t get as much exercise as I would like, or in fact need, due to the fact that I’m poorly but I do eat too much too. I accept that.

I don’t want to promote obesity, with obesity comes health problems and that’s not cool. But you know what else isn’t cool? Judging people on their appearance. I try to make the best of what I was given (not right now, right now I’m sat in a mis-match of clothes and no bra but you can’t see me, can you?). We all pass judgement without thinking, that’s human nature, but keep it to yourself. I don’t need you to tell me I’m a fatty-fat-fat, I do own a mirror, thanks!

Another thing that I’ve noticed is the change of attitude towards periods. While I don’t celebrate mine, in fact it is a horrendous few days a month, it seems that women are talking more openly about their bodies and what sanitary products they use. I’ve used CSP (cloth sanitary protection) for several years now, ever since I found them following using cloth nappies on Big L. I am now intrigued by period pants, not granny knickers to keep your sanitary towel in place, I mean actual period pants like Knixteen that do the job of a towel. Imagine no leaks! I already have to wash my pads so washing a pair of pants would be no different to me.  I’m all for anything that is reusable and better for the environment so all in all it’s a win win!

Ladies, I’m interested to know what you think of the sanitary choices we have now?
