We were sent the Gazillions bubbles to review – prefect timing!
Arranging a child’s birthday party under lockdown was pretty emotional
We knew it was coming. We cancelled the party even before the social distancing measures came into effect. With family in France it was inevitable that they wouldn’t make it and we decided to be on the safe side and cancel the family party we had planned for local friends and family too.
A fourth birthday must still be celebrated, even if it is just with your household under lockdown
We were lucky enough to have already been asked to review some Gazillions bubbles and machines and hastily cobbled together a little party for Little L with just the four of us.
The Gazillions bubbles arrived the week before so we hid them away in a cupboard and wrapped them up as a surprise.
Just like all children Little L loves bubbles, in fact we all love bubbles! He was thrilled when he saw all the toys. We were so lucky it was a nice day and we headed outside.
We were sent a great selection by gazillions. They are all available from Tesco via this link (and they are currently on offer online), I have added the Amazon links at the bottom of the post in case you can’t get a Tesco delivery (please note these are affiliate links)
I had heard how good Gazillion bubbles were but never actually used them. They really are fab!
Having spent the previous week in self isolation (you can read about what I learned from our first week in self isolation as a family here) it was a joy to get out in the sunshine and play. Monsieur incidental and I had cut the grass (notice I didn’t say lawn) and tidied the garden ready, and even got the sandpit looking nice again.
We spent a good couple of hours playing with the bubbles together as a family.
There is a knack to the Gazillion Megabubble Blaster, you have to leave it to pick up bubble mixture then give it a blast. Little L had a bit of a habit of not holding it up straight so little ones will need supervising with this one otherwise you lose the bubble liquid.
Big L was fab with the Giant Bubble Power Wand. He managed to make huge bubbles that floated over the house.
The Tornado Bubble Machine was great fun – it produces LOADS of bubbles very quickly – the kids really enjoyed running through them and the little girl next door was really chuffed that they floated over to her garden too!
My favourite was the 2 Ltr Giant Solution. It had a large bubble wand which you can fill with air by waving it – classic bubbles are by far the best in my humble opinion!
Party food for a lockdown birthday party
Little L loves a picnic so that was easy enough. We didn’t have anything elaborate – just what we had in the fridge, like everyone we have struggled to get supplies. We all sat on the grass and are our little sandwiches, crisps and salad and fruit.
Of course no Birthday party is complete without a birthday cake – even on lockdown!
We managed to get Little L a Paw Patrol cake, as you can see he was thrilled!
This is a tough time for a birthday, but I think us adults are more emotional about it than the kids. Little L was thrilled to just play in the garden with his big brother, us and the bubbles. At the end of the day we have to make the best of a bad situation and not beat ourselves up for something that is beyond our control.
