I have a huge love of nature
When life is getting me down I try to get out for a walk at our local nature reserve. As soon as I get there I find my worries melting away.
I recently discovered Nature Wallpaper
I have been introduced to nature wallpaper from Wallsauce.com and it is a thing of beauty. Imagine decorating a whole room, or even just a feature wall with your favourite nature scene? Trees, a waterfall, a safari – there are even penguins if that’s your thing!
May favourite is here:
I love this wallpaper because it reminds me of my favourite place
I have written about Sevenoaks Wildlife Reserve and my love of it a few times.
To me it is a truly magical place that I first visited as a child, at the time it was Sevenoaks Wildfowl Reserve. My mum and I were members and spent most weekends and school holidays there.
It was there we met an old colleague of my mum’s, Ron.
He was ringing the birds and I was fascinated. Bird ringing (not to be confused with bell ringing!) is where birds are caught in long nets that are put up ( a bit like badminton nets) and the birds fly into them. They are unharmed but a but tangled.
They are retrieved from the net, and their measurements, weight and so on, taken and recorded in a book. If they already have a ring those details are also recorded, if not a new ring is put on their leg.
The rings hardly weigh anything, no different to us wearing a ring on our finger or a bracelet
It was fascinating as if they have already been ringed you can trace where they have been, where they were first ringed, where they have visited since if they were caught.
This experience gave me a huge love of nature and respect for living things and nature in general and a need to be surrounded by it whenever possible.
